 **Dr. Américo Mendoza**-**Mori** is an interdisciplinary scholar trained in literary, linguistic and cultural studies. His research focuses on Latin American, U.S. Latinx, and Indigenous communities. At Harvard, he has launched the [Quechua Initiative on Global Indigeneity](https://sites.harvard.edu/quechua/).

 Mendoza-Mori’s work has appeared in a variety of academic journals, has been presented at the [United Nations](http://webtv.un.org/media/watch/9th-anniversary-of-the-un-declaration-of-the-rights-of-indigenous-peoples-press-conference/5123099266001), and has been featured in [The New York Times](https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/23/movies/dora-the-explorer-peru.html), [Library of Congress](https://www.loc.gov/item/webcast-10422/?loclr=blogtea), a [TEDx talk,](https://youtu.be/8EFFEyOeED4) BBC, NPR, [Remezcla](http://remezcla.com/features/culture/this-quechua-professor-wants-to-dispel-the-myth-that-indigenous-languages-are-a-thing-of-the-past/). He received his B.A. from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, in Lima (Peru), and has a Ph.D. from the University of Miami, Florida. Currently, Mendoza-Mori serves as an advisory board member of the community organization Kuskalla Abya Yala, and has served as an Executive Committee member of the MLA's [Association of Language Departments](https://www.maps.mla.org/About-MAPS/ALD/ALD-Executive-Committee) (ALD).

 Mendoza-Mori has taken on innovative leadership roles: Faculty Director of Harvard's Latinx Studies Working Group, founder and coordinator of the University of Pennsylvania’s Quechua program, co-founder of [*The Quechua Alliance*](https://thequechua.org/), and co-founder of the [*Thinking Andean Studies*](https://thinkingandeanstudies.com/) international conference. He has been a cultural consultant for theater and film, including Paramount Pictures’ movie *Dora and the Lost City of Gold* in 2019. Additionally, he has been involved in educational and community-based initiatives in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and the United States.
